Sam Abbaspoor

POSTDOC

Dr. Abbaspoor completed his PhD in Neuroscience under the guidance of Dr. Kari Hoffman at Vanderbilt University, where he focused on collecting wirelessly recorded neural activity from freely-behaving macaques. His research concentrated on the hippocampus and extrahippocampal areas, investigating the neural circuits that support memory formation in primates. Specifically, he explored how the structure and dynamics of memory traces are reorganized to support new learning while maintaining established memories.

At the Farrell lab, he will extend his exploration into the circuit dynamics of the hippocampus and the synaptic plasticity rules within its various subfields, which are crucial for learning and memory. His methodologies will include calcium imaging and focal single unit stimulation.

Outside the lab, he enjoys reading and watching movies.
